Journaling

January 11, 2012

Author's Note: I like to do journal entries sometimes so I decided to make this page for my journal entries. Yesterday was my first day back to skiing in a while. You have no idea how excited I was for so long. In this piece I am focusing on voice. These pieces aren't meant to be very formal; they are simply some of my journal entries. Also if you read carefully you can learn some things about me…everything I put in this piece was on purpose not random. Enjoy and please leave feedback!

Finally, we got back on the slopes. I haven't skied in nearly a year and getting back on yesterday was such a great feeling. My friends were with me and that made the trip so much better. The second we got to Sunburst Ski Areas I was able to feel the rush of happiness and excitement from everybody on the bus. We all looked out the tinted Coach Bus windows and just stared at the hills. Right away, there was a smile on my face.

Everyone couldn't wait to get out of that crowded bus. We just wanted to get our boots and skis and get right out on the hills. It must have been half an hour before we finally got to ski, but as soon as I touched the snow I forgot about time. We started off easy at the bunny hill and went up the towrope. When I came to the summit for the first time in a year I was thinking, "What if I forgot how to ski?!" Good thing my friend was there to encourage me to just go down. I made it down the bunny hill, no problem. Victory!

Afterwards my friends and I grouped up and went right to the ski lifts. I loved getting back on that ski lift. I was able to see all of the bright lights far out in the city and all of the skiers and snowboarders gliding down the hills throughout the entire park. Just being on that ski lift made me the happiest person in the world. When I got to the top, I didn’t even need to think twice, I skied back down. As I skied I remembered everything that I had learned last year. Put my skis in to slow down, swerve right and left down the hill, and don't forget to watch out for others. We all made it down and went right back up.

One of the times I was at the top, my friend and I just stopped and looked out at the view. The moon looked as if it were orange and filled the entire sky. It was a waning gibbous moon. All of the ski lifts were running, the great beaming lights filled the entire area, and the fake snow was all over the park, but it felt real. The sight was beautiful. As we skied down, we couldn't take our eyes off of it.

All of us skied for hours. I said I could have stayed forever and lived there just to ski, but it was time to go home. Everybody packed up and got back on the bus. I have to say, yesterday was the best day of 2012 so far. I can't wait to go skiing again. We are going to Tyrol Basin next; only nine days to go…and counting.
